Murder Mystery in the USA
Dear Random Acts Players,
You made our party absolutely perfect.  Everyone will be talking about Saturday night for a long, long time.  We were so pleased with the performance, food, and the waitresses were perfect in every way.  We had a ball!  If you ever need any Pittsburgh references, we would be happy to talk about all of the fun we had... at our party!                                                                                              Catherine Seskey Pittsburgh, PA

Again, many thanks to all of you!!! (Mom) She can tell anyone what it was like to be on the receiving end of this special day.  I would be happy also to be placed on your reference list!                                                                                                                   Lynn Sheahen Pittsburgh, PA

Our group really enjoyed the show and meal yesterday.  We are having our monthly meeting today and I am sure to get a lot of feedback from them.  Take care and happy singing.                                                                                                                                                                  Terry L. Gable

Thank you for a wonderful evening!  I haven't laughed so much in a long  time!  What a great way to spend the  evening with friends.  We truly enjoyed ourselves and the sing alongs and talent shows were so fun!  Thank you gain for allowing us to see and participate in your show.  Hope to catch you again sometime soon!                                                                                                                                        The Gnarly Hogs

I would also like to say,"Hats Off" to all of you on such a wonderful show this evening! I haven't laughed that much in a very long time. The group that was with me on the way back to Bryan couldn't stop talking about the show and all the  fun that they had.  Also, the food and service was very nice too!  Look forward to attending  another Random Act Show in the near future.  Please share our thoughts with the other Actors and have a Wonderful Season!!                                                                                                                                                                      Jan Batt

Last week my family celebrated my dad's 80th birthday by taking him on the Mystery Dinner Train in Charlotte, Michigan.   I want to tell you what a wonderful time we had!   All the staff made it such a special evening.   My mother uses a wheel chair, and we were worried about getting her on board the train, but the staff pitched right in and helped us get her settled.  The actors made my dad a part of the show and made a big deal about it being his birthday.   Since  we  knew  it  would take us longer to get my mom off, we waited until everyone else got off.   Many other passengers wished dad happy birthday on their way by.   I have not seen my dad so happy in a long time.   He is the  primary  care  giver  for my mother and many days has nothing to smile about.   But not last Saturday night.   We have a very special memory to enjoy for a long time  to come and I just wanted to let you know and say Thank You!                                                        Judy Wall    Charlotte, Michigan

Just wanted to take a moment and thank you from all the GPAL members here in Concord, Ohio.  Your performers were tremendous and we all throughly enjoyed  the show and the audience participation.  It was a successful fundraiser for us and we will be able to help a lot of students with reading disorders, with tutoring.  You can be sure that we will be contacting you in the future to return and once again delight us with your performance.    Thank You !!!!!!                                                                                                                                                Tina Evanchuck

It was a rootin' tootin' good time at The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio's fund-raiser Friday night at Central Park West banquet hall.  Random Acts presented Shootin' Stars, an interactive mystery.  Guests sipped and supped and bought raffle tickets for gift baskets holding everything from games to wine and gift certificates. Then everyone settled in for some serious fun as detectives.  A New Age psychic, a radio announcer, a dizzy detective, a soap star, a singer, a few actors, and a stunt man made up the wild and crazy cast that had guests laughing and singing along.  A few audience members were invited or coaxed  to the stage for some impromptu acting... everyone had a great time!
Just wanted to let you know how much our group -- we were the Red Hatters -- enjoyed our evening participating in your production of Who Wants to Murder a Millionaire?  at Lakeside this evening, 8-11.  It was lots of fun and we hope to do it again sometime.   Our group recently did our own Murder Mystery BBQ but we just sat around and pretty much read our parts.  Watching it acted out is so much more 'realistic'.  Thanks to you all for a fun evening.

Thanks to you and the other Random Acts actors for providing great entertainment for our holiday mixer last night.   The staff is all "abuzz" this morning recalling (with laughter) the details.  In my opinion, the participation and laughter  from our guests was much better than the band that was playing above us.  We made the right decision to hire you folks to present the Christmas murder mystery.   Happy Holidays to all and best wishes for success in the New Year.

Jacks Journal,  Jan. II  Dinner Theater  Where Footlights + Footlongs = Fun

Went to Louis G's last month to see their dinner theater.   (Hasten to say that Louis G's is not a hot dog place. Just couldn't resist the alliterative headline opportunity.)  The food was fine, as was the show. It was put on by Random Acts, an extraordinary theater troupe of Maumee origins. Owned by Lynda Whiting, Artistic Director and David Fioritto, Business Manager, the company has developed a range of entertainment concepts that is quite unique.  For one, it maintains a repertoire of some 40 shows, which it can stage on a moments notice. 3 or 4 actors are put into each part in each show. In an emergency the list of those who are prepared is run down until a cast is assembled.  During the travel time to the site, lines and cues are refreshed and all goes smoothly.  On one occasion they received 18 hours notice of a performance in Dayton, and fulfilled it!

It keeps an open door for actors.  Some of the 30 or so on their list can also be seen at Ms. Rose Dinner Theater, at Toledo Repertoire Theater, The Around the Bend Players, and other area venues from time-to-time.  Random Acts philosophy is that there is plenty of room in live theater for all. Actors polish their skills and bring something back from wherever they work.  They look for stage actors, good singers and improvisers, and help round out their skills.  Music is an integral part of each performance.  Whiting writes all the shows and co-writes the music. Fioritto co-writes and arranges the music. He has a degree from BGSU in Guitar Performance and plays every instrument there is except maybe the didgeridoo.

And they travel.  Really travel. 100-150 shows were put on last year.  Most locations are a few hours away, but a New York engagement took them 9 hours away and on one occasion they did 4 shows, in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Columbus and Toledo, in 2 days.  Sites are mostly private parties. They do wedding rehearsals, birthdays, anniversaries, company parties and family gatherings.  One lady hired them for a moving-in party she hosted for 100 or so of her new neighbors.  A good way for a real estate agent to introduce herself!  Public performances include some challenging stages, such as the Charlotte, Michigan Mystery Train and Sandpiper Cruises on the Maumee, where they will appear this summer.

When asked about unusual settings, Fioritto mentioned a wedding hall in New Jersey where they had to compete for sound with a DJ in an adjacent room. Once they started a show in a bus on its way to a casino and finished it back at the Chicago hotel. Not as bad, though, as the show done outside at a campground where the temperature was 100 degrees plus and the sewers were blocked up.

A much better setting is Louis G's, where they will appear again on January 26. Try em. You'll like em. The show is Star Struck. Join us in welcoming dinner theater to Sylvania.                                                                                   Jack MacMillan   Sylvania AdVantage   Sylvania, OH 43560
Thank you so much for working so passionately to ensure that our leadership and teambuilding experience this summer went so well. The Academy is about young researcher and engineering professionals that have a passion in leading in the space industry.  It was great to see that Random Acts troupe connected with the Research Assocates so well on June 14.  It was nice opening of our teambuilding process.                   Kamara Brown, Operations Manager  2007 NASA Academy NASA Glenn Research Center, Code RCA Brookpark, Ohio 44135
